MARONDERA: A former town council employee here has been arrested while a local councillor and three other ex-municipal workers are on the run over allegations they ran a child sex syndicate.
Patrick Tahwa, who was retrenched from council last year, was brought before a Marondera magistrate last Friday facing charges of having an affair with a Form Three girl aged 14.
Tahwa, who was granted a $50 bail, is accused of having sex with the girl at one of the two houses in Dombotombo which he and his colleagues rented for their sex escapades with the minors.
Police have since launched a man-hunt for a local councillor and three men who are facing the same charges as Tahwa.
ZRP sources said investigations had established that the five men were renting two houses in the town where they lured young girls using cash before having sex with them.
Tahwa was arrested after one of the girls who is now a witness in his court case went missing from her parents’ home last weekend.
A report was made to the police who tracked her to one of the two rented houses, leading to the arrest of Tahwa.
Messages found on a cellphone in the girl’s position revealed that several minors were visiting the two houses to engage in sex with the five men.
Other girls who were at the property when the police raided it managed to escape and investigations were still underway to identify them.-NewZim
