He now moves around with the aid of crutches, and each time he visits the toilet to relieve himself, the scars on his manhood bring back the memories of how he suffered at the hands of three female rapists.

Stories of men falling prey to female rapists in Zimbabwe have been received with scepticism by many people. This is because victims have not been prepared to come out to tell their stories and there have even been suspicion that some of the stories were made up by men seeking excuses for their own wayward ways. The Standard however, took time last week to track down the female rapists’ latest victim, 48-year-old *Chivamba, a teacher from Mashonaland East.

After pleading with him we finally convinced him it would be harmless and in fact a positive social move to tell his story.

His first confession was that he had never believed the stories about female rapists.

“I used to hear it via social media platforms and there was a time in this country when the rumours of female rapists spread like veld fire and I thought they were all a joke.
Little did I know that one day I would be a victim myself. I am confused, traumatised and I feel dejected.”

Chivamba shed tears as he recounted how he was sexually abused for days by two women who had given him a lift from Chitungwiza. He kept saying he prayed every day that the women get caught one day and brought to justice.

The father of four said he was so traumatised by the sexual ordeal he still relives the nightmare. “No man would ever want such an experience and as for me, I would give anything to avoid a repeat, even in a dream.”

Our interview with Chivamba took place at his home in Chitungwiza where we finally caught up with him after several visits to his work place in Macheke yielded nothing as he was off duty and recuperating at home.

“My family stays here in Chitungwiza and I was on my way back to Macheke after a weekend visit when this tragedy happened,” Chivamba said. “I usually prefer to use buses when travelling but as fate would have it, that day I flagged down a private car, a BMW and it stopped. The driver told me that he was going to Mutare via Marondera and that was perfect for me. There were three women already in the car, one sitting on the front passenger seat and the other two on the back seat. I got in and sat with the two women at the back and we took off.”

He said everyone was very friendly and the driver seemed to be in a love relationship with the woman sitting with him in the front.

“They were all drinking beer which was in a cooler box and when we got to Ziko shopping centre they stopped to refill. One of the ladies offered me a beer and I politely turned her down since I was not feeling well. I settled for a cascade which she handed over to me,” he recalled.

Chivamba said as they approached the Dema tollgate the driver took the dust road which many other drivers used to avoid paying toll fees. He said by this time he had finished the drink but was strangely feeling dizzy.

“I thought maybe it was the effects of the tablets that I had taken that day since I was having a running stomach. I fell asleep and the next moment I found myself in a small room with a small bed. I screamed but no one came to my rescue.

“My manhood felt itchy and when I looked down I realised I was bruised. I felt weak and I was confused. Then the two women who I was sharing the back seat within the car entered the room. They appeared to be much younger than the one who was seated at the front. They began removing their clothes and told me that they wanted me to have sex with them. I refused but one of them who appeared very drunk produced a pistol and told me that she would not hesitate to kill me.

“They tied both my hands, and began caressing me like what happens in a porn movie. They would take turns to suck my manhood and forcibly having sex with me. I was made to take another drink and soon after I had an erection. They would not stop raping me despite my pleas for mercy. One of the women used a condom but the other one wanted unprotected sex,” Chivamba recalled.

The following day the women brought him food but kept him locked up in the small room while masked with a woollen hat. Later in the day they bundled him into their car and they drove for some time before he was dumped along Wedza-Murambinda road.

“That was my first time to be in Wedza. I was assisted by some young men who directed me to Wedza centre where I reported the matter to the police. The police then took me to hospital where I was given treatment for the bruises on my manhood and also medication to prevent infection. I am grateful to the police and the staff at the hospital,” he said.

The medical report seen by this paper says Chivamba sustained injuries on his manhood, suffered chest pains and was put on 30-day medication to prevent him from contracting the HIV virus.

There have been several such cases of women raping men in similar fashion, involving cars and drugs in the past five years.

In 2011, some three Gweru women appeared in court accused of “raping” 17 male hitch hikers and collecting their semen.

The trio of Rosemary Chakwizira and sisters Netsai and Sophie Nhokwara were also found with 31 used condoms containing semen. However, the trio told the courts that they were commercial sex workers who had simply failed to dispose of the used condoms because they were too busy.

They were charged with indecent assault but were acquitted for lack of evidence.

Two months ago, two men reported that they were raped by seven women along Seke Road. The women were reportedly armed with a pistol and drugs that made their victims drowsy but at the same time giving them erections.

A local legal expert who preferred anonymity said at law, there was nothing like “female rapist”.

“There is nothing like a female rapist according to the law. It may only be aggravated indecent assault. Rape involves penetration; men are not penetrated unless a man is penetrated through the anus. In fact, that will not suffice,” the legal expert said.

Female rapists are said to be out to harvest sperms which reportedly fetch a lot of money in South Africa where traditional healers allegedly pay as much as $400 to $600, per ejaculation.

On Wednesday Chivamba will be back at work, teaching, but he says he is not sure he still has the confidence to stand in front of his pupils because of the trauma he went through. He also prays he did not contract HIV.-Standard

Video: Angry Mob Attacks Cop For Causing Kombi Crash

AN angry mob rained blows on a police officer who had allegedly caused an accident by grabbing the steering wheel from a driver whose commuter omnibus he had impounded on Saturday.

The cop’s actions caused the vehicle to ram into a shop.

A passenger who declined to be named said the cop had ordered the driver to drive to Drill Hall Police Station but had apparently changed his mind and seemed to ask for a bribe.

“The driver appeared not to cooperate, resulting in the cop grabbing the steering wheel,” said the passenger.

The Bulawayo United Public Transporters Association (Bupta) kombi uprooted a pillar and crashed into a glass display at a hardware shop at the corner of Third Avenue and Lobengula Street around 10AM.

Witnesses said the commuter omnibus which had been impounded by police at a check point near McKeurtan Primary School “dangerously zigzagged across the road” and sent pedestrians scurrying for cover as the driver and the unnamed cop wrestled for the steering wheel.

“The kombi started swerving and we knew something was wrong.  It then shot off the road and hit a pillar forcing its way into the hardware shop.” said Mr Alliance Kamuti.

“If it wasn’t for the pillar, there would have been serious injuries.”

Only the driver is said to have sustained minor injuries in the fracas.

Another witness said the officer who had impounded the vehicle tried to flee with an angry mob in hot pursuit.

“Some people kicked and punched him all over the body. He ran across the road. He seemed dazed as he returned towards the mob. Angry pedestrians ran after him and one slapped him before his colleagues rescued him,” said the witness.

The shop owner, who only identified himself as Mr N Moyo, said: “I was inside the shop when I heard a loud bang.  I went outside to investigate and saw that a kombi had slammed into my shop.”

He said the officer jumped out of the car and fled.

“When I got outside, the police officer started running away.  I tried to stop him but he continued running,” said Mr Moyo.

“The driver disembarked from the kombi screaming that the cop had grabbed the steering wheel causing him to lose control.”

Mr Moyo said battles between traffic police and kombi drivers should not endanger the public.

Watch Video

“This is not right, so we have to die just because the police want a $5 bribe. They should keep their battles to themselves and not put the public in danger,” said Mr Moyo.

“We can’t die because someone wants a $5 dollar bribe. Imagine if there were people on the pavement, they would have all died and their families would suffer.

“If the police want bribes, it’s better they brand their roadblocks as tollgates so that we know every time we approach a police check point that we have to leave some money.”

Mr Moyo said he reported the matter to the police.

“They refused to attend the scene citing security reasons. They said they were waiting for back-up as people were now beating officers of the law,” he said.

Bulawayo provincial police spokesperson Inspector Precious Simango yesterday said she was yet to receive a report of the issue.

Bupta secretary general Mr Albert Ncube declined to comment for the same reason.-ZP

MARONDERA Central MP Lawrence Katsiru (Zanu PF) yesterday lodged a complaint in the National Assembly, accusing his party colleague, Terence Mukupe (Harare East MP) of threatening to kill him over an undisclosed matter.

Harare East MP Terence Mukupe

Harare East MP Terence Mukupe

Katsiru claimed Mukupe yesterday approached his bench in the National Assembly, sat next to him, insulted and then threatened to kill him, while other MPs were debating other issues.

“On a point of order Mr Speaker, is it parliamentary that Mukupe comes to my bench, where I am seated, to insult and threaten to kill me?”

“Can you protect me Mr Speaker, and although he has threatened me, he is a small boy, and if he wants to rub shoulders with me, why can’t he wait until we are outside Parliament?” Katsiru said without elaborating.

Acting Speaker of the National Assembly, Rueben Marumahoko, did not immediately respond to Katsiru’s point of order, causing other MPs to interject, saying it was a serious matter concerning the security of MPs.

Mukupe, who was in the House, approached the Speaker’s chair, where he discussed with Marumahoko and was ordered to then leave the House.

Kuwadzana East MP, Nelson Chamisa demanded that an explanation be given to MPs of what had transpired and that Marumahoko must immediately make a ruling on the matter.

“This Parliament is a sacrosanct platform and if an MP’s honour is subtracted by another MP or any other force, it must be investigated,” he said.

“Once an MP has raised an issue, in terms of the Standing Orders of Parliament, it is a public issue for the integrity of the House and we must have the Speaker’s ruling.”

Marumahoko thwarted any further discussions on the matter, saying he would make a ruling after investigations are done.

He said although such threats violated Parliament rules, they were allegations that needed to be investigated first.

Mukupe and Katsiru have been clashing over ward 46 boundaries in Harare East, where the former is alleged to be tampering with boundaries, to include people from Mashonaland East, where the latter is provincial member, to vote in a council by-election in the capital.-AMH

A Shurugwi man is in hot soup after he recently fondled the buttocks of a female member of the Zimbabwe Republic Police constabulary who was on duty at a local nightclub.

Andrew James (31) of Manokore village under Chief Zingwe appeared before Shurugwi resident Magistrate Sangster Tavengwa facing charges of indecent assault as defined in section 67 (1) (a) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act Chapter 9:23 .

It is in the states case as presented by Bertha Bore that, on the 17th day of July 2017 at around 0100hrs Hamunyari Musagwiza (33) (complainant) was on patrol at Mzansi night club in the company of Police constable Simbarashe Mpofu, the two were clad in police uniform.

Whilst the two were executing their duties, Andrew James came towards Constable Musagwiza and stood beside her, he then talked in Shona vernacular saying ‘ pano paita musika’.

Constable Musagwiza however ignored James’ statement.

After passing his comment, in a short period of time James fondled Constable Musagwiza’s buttocks once before he was arrested and detained at Shurugwi police station.

In his defence to the indecent assault charge, James told the court that he was confused by the disco lights in Mzansi Night Club and he mistakenly saw the officer of the law as one of the thigh vendors in the night club.

“I was deceived by the disco lights in the nightclub I could not see that the complainant was in police uniform, I thought that she was one of the ladies of the night that we are used to dine and whine with willy-nilly, I only managed to realise that I had fondled the buttocks of a police woman after I was handcuffed,” he said.

Sentencing, Shurugwi resident Magistrate Sangster Tavengwa slapped Andrew James with a 9 months prison sentence of which three months were suspended on condition of good behaviour, moreover, further 6 months were wholly suspended on condition that the accused performs 210 hours of community service at Bethel Primary School in Shurugwi.-Online

Khupe sues late hubby’s second wife

A ZIMBABWEAN woman based in the United Kingdom who allegedly deserted her husband in 2000, has dragged his second wife to court in a fight over his estate following his death in February.

Ms Andie Khupe (67) is challenging the appointment of Ms Sibusisiwe Nzombe, her late husband’s second wife who lives in Plumtree, as executor of his estate.

Ms Nzombe, who was customarily married to Mr Levie Moyo in 2004, was in February appointed executor of the estate. Ms Khupe, who was legally married to Moyo under the Marriage Act, wants the Magistrate Court to reverse Ms Nzombe’s appointment.

In her application, Ms Khupe said she was the late Moyo’s only surviving spouse.

Ms Khupe said Ms Nzombe did not inform her of Moyo’s death in order to unlawfully assume control over the estate.

She said she was not aware that her husband was customarily married to another woman.

“I have been based in the UK for the past 15 years as I work there but I was still legally married to my husband, Levie Moyo at the time he passed away. I was periodically visiting my husband at our home in Plumtree while he was still alive and I wasn’t aware that he was married to another woman customarily,” Ms Khupe said.

“I only heard rumours about the matter while I was in the UK. When my husband died in February, Ms Nzombe didn’t inform me and I only learnt about it a week later. As a result I failed to apply to be appointed as an executor of my late husband’s estate on time.”

She said she learnt that Ms Nzombe had lied to the court that she was the only surviving spouse and was appointed as the executor.

“I beg with the court to disqualify Ms Nzombe from being the executor of my husband’s estate because I’m the legal wife. I don’t recognise Ms Nzombe as his wife at all as she is just a chancer trying to gain ownership of my late husband’s property,” Ms Khupe said.

In her opposing affidavit, Ms Nzombe, who is being represented by Mr Kenneth Lubimbi of Lubimbi and Partners Legal Practitioners, insisted that she was the rightful executor of her late husband’s estate as “the only surviving spouse.”

She said when she was customarily married to Moyo in 2004, he told her that Ms Khupe deserted him and relocated to the UK. Ms Nzombe said she was not aware that Moyo was still legally married to his first wife and she had never seen her during the course of their marriage.

Ms Nzombe said Ms Khupe abandoned her husband and was now coming back because she was greedy.

“Ms Khupe never set foot at our matrimonial home since 2004 and she didn’t oppose my marriage to Moyo. She abandoned her ex-husband for the past 12 years and is only resurfacing for purposes of inheritance.

“When I moved in with Moyo, the relatives of his first wife took out all the movable property and we started building our home from scratch. I have been living in my home for the past 12 years and I won’t allow Ms Khupe to rob me of my inheritance because of her greediness,” she said.

Ms Nzombe begged the court to dismiss Ms Khupe’s application.

Plumtree magistrate, Mr Taurai Manwere, referred the matter to the High Court.-Chronicle

Sex workers raped in graveyard

THREE Harare sex workers were forced to strip at Mbare West Cemetery by three men who later took turns to force themselves on each of them without wearing protection.

One of the victim sex workers, who filed a police report, narrated her ordeal to the Weekend Post but feared she may never get justice due to the widespread discrimination accorded to sex trade in Zimbabwe.

Police spokesperson Charity Charamba distanced the police from accusations of not taking sex worker reports seriously.

“We take every case seriously. I am, however, not yet aware of this particular matter.”

The sex worker who identified herself as Samantha recounted the rape and how she is still to come to terms with the incident.

“These men came to us and asked how much I charge short time. I told them $10 and they obliged before taking me along with two of my friends,” she said.

“Prior to that I had made quite a bit of money sezvo ndanga ndiri new bhero pataundi (I had made a bit of money since I was a new catch at the place).”

The three sex workers then proceeded with the men who appeared “noble” at first as they bought them a couple of beers before they drove off to the cemetery.

“You can imagine our surprise as we headed into the cemetery. We tried to object but the men remained silent. They told us to get out before asking us to strip naked. They took the money which was in my bra.

“They then roved their trousers and forced themselves onto us. What really hurt me is that one of my friends is HIV positive and I had seen her ailing and now these men were taking turns with us. They never even bothered to use condoms and you know how those sperms are so disgusting. They had water but they couldn’t even be bothered to wipe,” she said in between sobs.

However, their nightmare only ended after the “men had had enough, before asking us to run in front of their car as they hooted and shouted obscenities.”

Samantha was later treated for a sexual transmitted disease (STI)at a Harare hospital but says she received a torrid time from nurses just as she had also had a hard time from police as she filed a report.

Zimbabwe Nurses Association (Zina) secretary general Enock Dongo said if sex workers were facing problems accessing health care then it was unfortunate.

“Our oath as nurses is that we swear we don’t discriminate, if it’s happening anywhere it’s very unfortunate,” he said.

“Sometimes when we treat STIs we encourage patients to bring their partners but sometimes other people may feel disenfranchised by that. But that doesn’t mean we don’t treat. This is just to avoid recurrence.”

Home Affairs deputy ministerObedingwa Mguni called for the police to treat sex workers with respect.
“I am aware that there is no Act that grants commercial, whether it is social or what workers. I am afraid to name it,” he said recently during question and answer session in the National Assembly.

“It is not yet approved that they can do their work. However, it does not constitute police to abuse such people because you cannot even abuse a person you arrested committing crime. As police, you need to be professional.”

Marondera — A birthday party at a local farm ended tragically recently after a mentally ill man stabbed to death an uninvited guest.

Court records show that the now deceased Bezel Chasenza, 23, of Yutikik Farm went to one Thulani Gwebede’s house at the same farm where a birthday party was being held.

However, Gwebede’s brother, Prince Gwebede, 28, who is a mental patient, ordered Chasenza to leave saying he might cause problems and a misunderstanding arose between the two men.

During the commotion, Prince stabbed Chasenza four times and the latter collapsed. Revellers then ferried the now deceased to Marondera hospital where he succumbed to the stab injuries sustained, leading to Gwebede’s arrest.

In court last week, Gwebede pleaded guilty, but the magistrate, Ignatius Mhene, ordered that he be remanded in custody at the Chikurubi Psychiatric Unit in Harare for treatment while awaiting sentence.

15 lawyers under probe

Fifteen lawyers are under scrutiny for misconduct following applications that were filed with Law Society of Zimbabwe (LSZ), with one having been deregistered this year.

LSZ president, Misheck Hogwe, who has also been nominated for the Prosecutor-General’s post — said they were yet to look into the applications before concluding the fate of the attorneys.

“The applications relate to misconduct in the fraternity and we want people to understand that when lawyers are deregistered we inform members of the public so that they are aware of who they are dealing with. “It is in the public interest. Our profession is about integrity and everyone has to feel safe in the hands of the lawyers,” he said.

“Corruption is a difficult cancer that is affecting most sectors in the country and we need to come up with strategies to deal with it,” Hogwe added.

He said they were working with Judicial Services Commission (JSC) to improve their fraternity and were embracing criticism made by chief justice Luke Malaba.

Malaba, during a conference held by LSZ in Victoria Falls recently, castigated lawyers who did not thoroughly research cases that they would be defending, saying some presented themselves in court as uninterested observers.

“Why can’t you enjoy being a lawyer and why do you take it so casually, yet you’re holding onto something that is affecting every facet of the lives of people you represent and act as though you’re are laymen,” he queried.

“We now have lawyers, who come to court and present themselves as unresponsive observers in body and in mind in their own cases, yet you have been hired to represent someone on a life issue.”

During a media engagement recently, Hogwe said: “There is no hostility but collaboration between LSZ and JSC. We embrace such criticism and feel it is important from time to time that stakeholders like the judiciary scrutinise our performance.”

“We took the chief justice’s remarks as serious as they are and, of course, in any profession they are bound to be some lazy people but we strive to bring the best out of our profession.”

Shingi died on Saturday night around 9pm, a few metres from his Mt Pleasant home. He died on the spot after a hit and run incident. The son of the late retired Chief Justice Godfrey Chidyausiku — Tadzimirwa — yesterday appeared in court for allegedly fondling a married woman’s butt at a popular pub and grill in Harare on Sunday.

Tadzimirwa Bernard Chidyausiku, 28, was bandaged on the forehead when he appeared before Harare magistrate Victoria Mashamba yesterday, charged with indecent assault for alleged unwanted bottom-touching.

READ ALSO:

Chidyausiku, who was represented by advocate Webster Chinamora and denied the allegations, was released on $100 bail and advised to continue residing at his present address and not interfere with witnesses until the case is finalised.

The matter was postponed to August 10 for commencement of trial.

The complainant is Amina Mahomed, 25, of Good Hope in Harare.

Prosecutor Patience Chimusaru said on July 24 this year around 1am, Mahomed was at Shisanyama Bar having fun with her husband.

It was alleged that when Mahomed intended to visit the toilet, she met Chidyausiku at the bar’s entrance and he advanced towards her.

Chidyausiku reportedly told the woman he wanted to put a second ring on her finger.

“Mahomed responded that she was a married woman hoping to brush him off.

The court heard that Chidyausiku then fondled Mahomed’s bum without her consent telling the woman that she was beautiful.

Mahomed started walking back to her husband but Chidyausiku still pursued her, insisting on putting a second ring on her finger.

This did not go down well with Mahomed’s husband and a fight broke out between the two men.

Mahomed later reported the indecent assault case to the police, leading to Chidyausiku’s arrest.-Dailynews

Police officer injured in demo against roadblocks

AN anti-riot police officer was injured yesterday as a demonstration by Kwekwe commuter omnibus operators against the increasing number of roadblocks and corruption turned nasty.

The cop, whose name could not be established, was injured as the rampant commuter operators started throwing stones and missiles at anti-riot police who were called in to quell the protest.

An angry mob of commuter omnibus operators  gathered at a roadblock mounted at Lancashire Steel turn-off and they started chanting revolutionary songs denouncing the police who were manning the block accusing them of being corrupt.

Anti-riot police reacted swiftly and attempted to crush the protest resulting in a violent clash between the two groups. This led to the cop getting injured and seven touts were arrested.

The touts were still detained at Kwekwe Central Police Station by 7PM last night and are likely to face charges of public violence and assault.

A Chronicle news crew visited Kwekwe and witnessed passengers intending to travel to Mbizo and Redcliff stranded as commuters omnibuses plying the Redcliff and Mbizo routes were parked at the Zanu-PF Kwekwe District headquarters where they reportedly sought refuge after police threatened to deal with them at the terminus.

Kombi drivers said they usually pay police $5 every morning and they would not be bothered the rest of the day.

“Today we found three roadblocks mounted by police officers between Kwekwe and Redcliff. The cops at each roadblock were demanding $10. We make about $35 on good days and paying would mean killing our business,” said a driver who declined to be named.

He said drivers who refused to pay were forced to park by the roadside while their colleagues took advantage of the rush hour.

Redcliff Kwekwe Omnibus Operators Association (RKOA) Chairman, Claudius Chaka confirmed the incident saying police were fleecing them.

“Mbizo Police Station, Amaveni Police and Kwekwe Central Police officers all come to mount one roadblock where each group will be fining you differently. At the end of the day you work for the police,”  said Chaka.

A tout said: “The fact that the three camps were reportedly demanding a $10 fine meant that each commuter was forking out a total of $30 for a day’s operations, a move which irked the commuter operators.”

Officer Commanding Police Kwekwe District, Chief Superintendent David Tiese said he was disturbed by the commuter operators’ actions.

“It’s really saddening that it has come to this. I am disturbed with the way you (commuter operators) have tried to solve this issue. Public disorder is a serious crime. If there is any problem you should approach us for a discussion,” he said.

By the time of going to print, the commuter omnibuses were still parked at the party office awaiting the outcome of a meeting between police chiefs, RKOA representatives and Zanu-PF officials.

The high number of police roadblocks on the country’s roads has been blamed for scaring away tourists and affecting the ease of doing business.

The Commissioner General of Police Dr Augustine Chihuri has however defended the roadblocks saying people who criticised high police presence on national roads had sinister motives and evil intentions.-Chronicle

AN aspiring MDC-T legislator for Makoni South allegedly threatened to kill a Zanu-PF Makoni South assistant co-ordinator and his family once he is voted into Parliament next year.

Chamunorwa Muzvidzwa (37) of Number NC53, Nyazura Township, appeared in court last week for violating Section 186 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act, Chapter 9.23 which makes it criminal for one to make threats to commit murder.

Muzvidzwa pleaded not guilty when he appeared before Rusape provincial magistrate, Mr Shane Kubonera, telling that court that he never threatened to kill Kenneth Chaparapata who is his relative through marriage.

State prosecutor, Mr Tafara Chawatama, told the court that Muzvidzwa who runs Pachamu Bottle Store was heard saying once he get elected, he would kill Chaparapata and his family.

“On May 28 at around 11am, and at Rukweza Business Centre, behind Hands Bottle Store, Chamunorwa Muzvidzwa, was heard by Mazvita Mutizwa saying: “If I win the oncoming elections as MDC-T Member of Parliament, I am going to kill Kenneth Chaparapata, his wife and children.

“Mutizwa rushed to Chaparapata’s workplace at Pride Butchery in Nyazura and informed him about the threats. Charaparata made a police report at Nyazura Police Station leading to Muzvidzwa’s arrest,” said Mr Chawatama.

Mr Kubonera adjourned the matter to August 1 for continuation of trial.

Man fondles girl (13) ‘on God’s instruction’

A MAN from Mzilikazi suburb in Bulawayo allegedly told a 13-year- old minor from his church that God wanted people to love one another before he allegedly fondled her.

The 50-year-old man, who is a Harvest House International church member, appeared before magistrate Ms Gladmore Mushove facing indecent assault charges.

He pleaded not guilty and was remanded out of custody to tomorrow for continuation of trial.

The man, whose identity has been withheld to protect the identity of the minor, said he never touched the girl, but only asked her to give him a wheel barrow as they were neighbours.

“I went to the minor’s home to ask for a wheel barrow to take to the grinding mill as I had defaulted drinking my Anti retroviral drugs (ARVS) because I had not eaten for two days. Even the Bible says that if a person says I did not do something they should stick to their word and I only asked for a wheel barrow,” he said.

However, the minor said the man came to their home while she was alone just after she arrived from school.

The minor said the man used to tell her about how women experienced pain when giving birth as punishment from God after Eve had sinned.

Prosecuting, Ms Petronila Ngwenya said the man started preaching before fondling the minor.

“On June 26, last year, the man went to the juvenile’s house seeking a wheel barrow which he was given by the juvenile. He proceeded to the kitchen and started preaching the gospel to the minor,” she said.

The court heard that the accused caressed the minor’s buttocks and chest. He then allegedly put his hands inside her panties and touched her private parts.

Harare – A Harare man has been jailed for nine years for trying to sell a belt made from python skin worth $2 000, a newspaper reported on Tuesday.

Twenty-nine year-old Kingstone Gwenzi was arrested last month in Harare’s Budiriro suburb by detectives acting on a tip-off, said the state-run Herald.

“Police officers spotted Gwenzi at Budiriro 1 shops where he was looking for buyers,” the paper said.

He was searched by the detectives, who found the belt stashed in his bag. Under Zimbabwe’s strict wildlife laws, killing or being found in possession of a protected animal carries a mandatory nine-year jail term.

Offenders found in possession of poached ivory or live pangolins are routinely sent to jail for lengthy periods.

Gwenzi pleaded guilty to the charge of possessing a python skin without a permit and was sentenced on Friday by Harare Magistrate Nomsa Sabarauta.

Last year a 46-year old villager in western Lupane district was jailed for nine years after police officers acting on a tip-off found a four-metre long python skin hanging on his dining room wall.

FOUR Harare residents were on Wednesday left hospitalised after they were assaulted by some Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) officers upon arrest and while in police custody.

The four Harare residents namely John Munikwa, Clyde Mauye, Petros Muchabaiwa and Fanuel Mapfumo sustained severe injuries after they were assaulted by some ZRP officers who arrested them on Monday 31 July 2017 for allegedly assaulting a police officer in Harare.

The four only accessed medical attention after the intervention of their lawyer Gift Mtisi from Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR), who had been denied access to his clients since Monday when they were arrested.

Munikwa, Mauye, Muchabaiwa and Mapfumo were set free on Wednesday evening after they failed to appear in court within 48 hours from the time they were arrested.

The ZRP officers have since summoned the four residents to appear in court on Thursday 10 August 2017 and answer to charges of assaulting a police officer.

Meanwhile, ZLHR lawyer Clifford Chinamatira has petitioned the High Court seeking the release on bail of eight Kwekwe residents who were denied bail by Kwekwe Magistrate Livard Phelimon on Friday 28 July 2017.

The eight residents were arrested together with four others on Wednesday 26 July 2017 for allegedly protesting against rampant corruption within the ZRP ranks and were charged with public violence as defined in Section 36 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform Act) and participating in an unlawful gathering as defined in Section 37 of the same Act.

The other four residents were granted $100 bail by Magistrate Phelimon on Friday 28 July 2017 while their co-accused were denied bail after ZRP officers claimed that their investigations were not yet complete.

Police assistant commissioner Cosmas Mushore was hauled before the courts yesterday for allegedly raping  his 17-year-old niece.

Mushore, 49, stationed at ZRP Chikurubi Support Unit, was recorded by the niece during the sex romp on her mobile phone.

He appeared before Harare magistrate Josephine Sande and was remanded in custody. He was advised to apply for bail at the High Court pending his next appearance on August 17.

Mushore was promoted by President Robert Mugabe to the position of assistant commissioner in July 2015. He was a chief superintendent prior to his promotion.

According to State papers, Mushore was appointed the niece’s legal guardian after the death of her mother.

They stayed at “A” mess, senior officers quarters at Chikurubi.

Prosecutor Sabastian Mutizirwa alleged that on July 28 this year, Mushore left his residence in the morning escorting his wife to work.

The court heard that he returned later and found his niece preparing to go to school.

It was alleged that Mushore then summoned the girl to follow him to his bedroom but she did not comply.

He allegedly went to her bedroom instead.

The minor set her LG cellphone to record “anticipated events” that would occur in that room after she sensed danger from the way her uncle had called her.

Mushore reportedly dragged her to his bedroom before undressing and raping her.

After the act, Mushore left for his workplace and the minor took a bath before leaving for school where she narrated the ordeal to authorities.

She was assisted to file a police report at Mabvuku Police Station.

She was immediately taken for medical examinations, which confirmed that she was sexually violated.

According to State papers, the footage provided by the complainant will be produced as evidence in court.

The State has also lined up a witness whom Mushore’s niece confided in after the rape.

Teenager accused of attempted murder shooting led away as relatives wept and cried out: “We love you”.

UK: TWO teenagers, one of them Zimbabwean, have appeared in court charged with attempted murder following a series of shootings in Huddersfield described as “ongoing gang warfare.”

Armed police were called as detectives launched a major investigation after shots were fired at several locations across the town.

In one incident, a taxi driver was hurt after a gun was fired at his cab in Holays, Dalton. An hour later shots were aimed at a car in New House Road, Deighton.

On Friday at Kirklees Magistrates’ Court it was revealed that the shootings are believed to have been carried out by two rival gangs in order to settle disputes between them.

Ryan Ncube, 18, of Scott Vale in Deighton appeared in court charged with attempted murder.

He was joined in the secure custody dock by his co-accused, a 17-year-old man from Dalton who cannot be named for legal reasons.

The shootings took place over just five days and both teenagers are alleged to have been involved in two of these murder attempts.

They include the attack on the Huddersfield Taxis driver last Thursday night.

Shots were fired at passengers in the back of the cab and the Huddersfield court heard that the driver was hit in his back by eight shotgun pellets.

In the incident later the same night, an occupied VW Golf was hit by bullets, an incident both defendants were also allegedly involved with.

The youth is charged with a third murder attempt following the drive-by shooting on Dalton Fold Road in Rawthorpe on the evening of Saturday, July 22.

During that alleged incident shots were fired towards two men who were with two women.

Nobody was hurt but firearms officers attended the scene and found shotgun pellets by the side of a house.

The teenagers appeared in the dock flanked by three dock officers.

A member of court security staff was drafted in to supervise the packed public gallery inside courtroom number one.

Neither Ncube, wearing a black long-sleeved top with grey jogging bottoms nor his co-defendant, dressed in a light grey T-shirt with darker trousers, entered pleas to the charges put to them.

District Judge Michael Fanning remanded both into custody ahead of their first appearance at Leeds Crown Court on September 1.

As Ncube was led away, several family members wept and cried out: “We love you.”
